The earth is in danger

INITIATIVE

Let’s solve N

Human activity damages the environment of Earth every day. Deforestation, freshwater pollution, scarcity of freshwater, oil drilling and fracking pose a threat to the delicate balance needed to maintain life. Nature is valuable, yet vulnerable. We must ensure that our planet remains habitable for future generations. We want to help solving the equations of nature (N). If not for us, then for our children and successors.

Pursuing a practical approach to research

Koroush Shirvan, the John Clark Hardwick Career Development Professor in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE), knows that the nuclear industry has traditionally been wary of innovations until they are shown to have proven utility. As a result, he has relentlessly focused on practi…

Large language models help decipher clinical notes

Electronic health records (EHRs) need a new public relations manager. Ten years ago, the U.S. government passed a law that required hospitals to digitize their health records with the intent of improving and streamlining care. The enormous amount of information in these now-digital records could be …

Physics and Bio Inspired Computing

The ideas behind biological computing trace back to 1936 and the first description of an abstract computer, which is now known as a Turing machine. Turing firstly described the abstract construct using a biological specimen. Turing imagined a mathematician that has three important attributes. He always has a pencil with an eraser, an unlimited number of papers and a working set of eyes. The eyes allow the mathematician to see and perceive any symbols written on the paper while the pencil allows him to write and erase any symbols that he wants. Lastly, the unlimited paper allows him to store anything he wants memory. Using these ideas he was able to describe an abstraction of the modern digital computer. However Turing mentioned that anything that can perform these functions can be considered such a machine and he even said that even electricity should not be required to describe digital computation and machine thinking in general.

With Moore’s law coming to an end, and, with it, the digital age, alternative novel computing systems have to be explored. Physical systems and processes, just like biological ones, can inspire the design of computer algorithms. We actively research a range of physical phenomena and have implemented a range of algorithms which draw inspiration from aspects of these phenomena. This section provides an overview of some of our work in the area of bio-inspired as well as physics-inspired computing.

Software Development Services

We combine our tech expertise and industry-specific knowledge to develop outstanding software solutions. With a sharp focus on quality-driven results, we have proven to be a reliable partner for companies looking to propel their growth through software development services. Every custom software project starts with discovery, to evaluate the tech and business scrutiny of the idea behind the solution. This way, we ensure its feasibility to prevent our customers from walking the avenue of a potential budget loss. This is followed by the design phase, where we are defining the product vision to meet the customer’s business goals. We are also setting up a detailed project delivery roadmap and are breaking the process down into manageable deliverables. Having all the requirements transformed into the product implementation, our software engineers move fast yet wisely, harnessing the full potential of the Agile methodology. An integral part of our custom software development process is the QA phase, where we are handpicking and fusing together the best industry practices and methodologies to detect bugs in the environmental context; not a single line of code leaves us untested. Maintenance and Support is making sure that your software works well and lives up to the technical and business expectations.

FPGA & ASIC Development

An FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) consists of a silicon chip that integrates memory, logic gates, and other processing elements. They are extremely popular for their speed, flexibility, and space savings in applications such as video processing, network interfaces, and digital communications. FPGAs process data in parallel at hardware speeds, compared to a microprocessor that processes data serially using software. This gives FPGAs the ability to do things that a microprocessor cannot do, such as Software Defined Radio and other very high-speed operations.

FPGAs have revolutionized digital circuit design and embedded systems circuit design with programmable architecture, high density, and high speed. What used to take an entire circuit board can be put on a single chip, even in low volume production. IP (Intellectual Property) is available for a wide variety of functions that can be put on the FPGAs, including microprocessors, filters, phase-locked loops, and hundreds of other functions, saving a lot of time in development. We have the knowledge and experience to use these capabilities and provide our customers with production-quality register transfer level (RTL) code up to turnkey solutions and bitstreams.
