Human activity damages the environment of Earth every day. Deforestation, freshwater pollution, scarcity of freshwater, oil drilling and fracking pose a threat to the delicate balance needed to maintain life. Nature is valuable, yet vulnerable. We must ensure that our planet remains habitable for future generations. If not for us, then for our children and successors.

We have formed this initiative with researchers and supporters around the world to solve the equations surrounding nature (=N). Having an understanding of N will enable us to ultimately resolve climate change, freshwater, deforestation, and other sustainability issues. To fully address the environmental issues we are facing, we have to understand the interconnected relationships between all organisms and the complexity of nature.

The number of variables and unknowns involved in solving N requires the development of machines capable of solving the most complex computations. In particular, emerging nature-inspired computational methods (physics and bioinspired) are considered promising for creating such machines.

Physics and Bio Inspired Computing

The ideas behind biological computing trace back to 1936 and the first description of an abstract computer, which is now known as a Turing machine. Turing firstly described the abstract construct using a biological specimen. Turing imagined a mathematician that has three important attributes. He always has a pencil with an eraser, an unlimited number of papers and a working set of eyes. The eyes allow the mathematician to see and perceive any symbols written on the paper while the pencil allows him to write and erase any symbols that he wants. Lastly, the unlimited paper allows him to store anything he wants memory. Using these ideas he was able to describe an abstraction of the modern digital computer. However Turing mentioned that anything that can perform these functions can be considered such a machine and he even said that even electricity should not be required to describe digital computation and machine thinking in general.

We actively research a range of physical phenomena and have implemented a range of algorithms which draw inspiration from aspects of these phenomena. FPGA & ASIC Development

An FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) consists of a silicon chip that integrates memory, logic gates, and other processing elements. They are extremely popular for their speed, flexibility, and space savings in applications such as video processing, network interfaces, and digital communications. FPGAs process data in parallel at hardware speeds, compared to a microprocessor that processes data serially using software. This gives FPGAs the ability to do things that a microprocessor cannot do, such as Software Defined Radio and other very high-speed operations.
